WILLIAMS PD CAPTURES DRIVER AFTER WILD PURSUIT

A man from Southern Arizona is in custody after a dangerous pursuit on city streets. The chase started shortly after 8 p.m. when a Williams P.D. Officer attempted to stop a pickup truck driving with its headlights off. The driver refused to pull over and fled from the Officer.

After driving out to the golf course area of town, the driver headed back into downtown Williams on Route 66 at high speed. When he reached the west end of town he drove onto Railroad Avenue going the wrong way. Officers discontinued the chase due to the danger it posed to the public and tried to track the driver from Route 66.

Officers quickly located the car in front of the Super 8 Motel at 800 E. Route 66. The car had a flat tire and front-end damage and was abandoned. A shoe was located in the middle of Route 66 indicating the driver may have fled into the wooded area north of Route 66.

The Williams P.D. K9 Officer was called to the scene and a K9 search of the area was begun with Coconino County Sheriff’s Deputies assisting on the perimeter.

About an hour into the search, Williams Fire Marshall Jason Moore received a call from a citizen informing him of a suspicious man walking down the middle of Homestead Road. He notified Williams Police dispatch and drove to the area from the nearby Homecoming Bonfire at the Rodeo Grounds. Moore spotted a man in the street and stopped his truck. Officers arrived quickly and took the man into custody.

The man was booked into the jail in Flagstaff on several charges.
