BREAK IN SNOWFALL GIVES ROAD CREWS TIME TO PREPARE FOR MORNING TRAVEL

While much needed break in the snow falling has given ADOT, Coconino County, and the City of Williams crews time to prepare the roads for morning travelers, travel remains difficult and dangerous in most areas and driving is not recommended unless absolutely necessary.

The current updated forecast puts the next chance of snowfall starting around noon Monday.

City of Williams Street Department crews are currently at work in the city plowing and removing snow. The roads are passable, but remain slippery.

Highway 64 has been plowed regularly by ADOT all night. The road is covered with hard packed snow and ice in most areas with very little pavement visible from Williams to Grand Canyon Junction.

Interstate 40 is well plowed and has pavement showing between Williams and the Parks area. Traffic is moving westbound but very little is being seen coming from the west up Ash Fork hill.

We strongly recommend not driving unless you absolutely have to for the next few hours at least. If you have to drive, it should be in a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

As much as 1 foot of snow fell in some areas.
