The Williams Police and Fire Departments responded to a train derailment shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday night near the Garland Prairie railroad crossing. The BNSF train crew reported the incident and WPD Officers responded quickly and began assessing the situation.
After surveying the scene, it was determined that approximately 20 cars had derailed. Luckily, no hazardous materials were spilled, and no one on the train was injured.
BNSF Railroad has crews on the scene working to clear the tracks as quickly as possible. The Garland Prairie track crossing is closed to traffic while the tracks are being cleared and no time estimate for reopening is available yet.
Lifeline ambulance and Deputies from the Coconino County Sheriffs Office also responded to the incident.
