A Seligman rancher’s Anatolian Pyrenees dog is being called a hero after he found a 2 year old boy that had wandered away from his home and spent the night alone in the wilderness. The remote area is known to be home to many dangerous animals, including bears, coyotes, snakes, and mountain lions.
The dog named Buford belonging to rancher Scotty Dunton found the boy approximately seven miles away from his home on Tuesday morning, more than 16 hours after he was last seen.
According to Dunton, “Going down the driveway, my dog was sitting down there with the little kid, just brought him up from the horse pasture and brought him over to the gate and was just hanging out with him”.
The searchers reported spotting 2 Mountain Lions during the night while searching for the toddler.
Dunton said about the dog, “He goes out at night and just kind of patrols. He goes half a mile, a mile from the house and just makes big loops, keeps coyotes out.”
The boy was reunited with his parents.
