The Flagstaff office of the National Weather Service released data claiming to show many parts of Northern Arizona having the “hottest summer on record”. The period measured was from June 1st through August 31st, which is referred to as “meteorological summer”. The more widely recognized “astrological summer” is defined as being from Thu, Jun 20, 2024 – Sun, Sep 22, 2024.
The reported average temperature in Williams was 70.1 degrees Fahrenheit, with the previous claimed record high being in 2002 at 70.0 degrees Fahrenheit. The average is derived from the mean of the high and low temperature each day. Due to the variations of monitoring equipment location, type and other factors over the decades makes a .1 degree temperature difference statistically insignificant. Other locations in Northern Arizona showed higher differences between previous records and 2024 numbers.
More high temperatures are headed our way later this week with only a small chance of rain in the area.
