MONSOON UPDATE, HOW WET HAS IT BEEN?

With a little more that a month to go until the end of the official Monsoon Season, September 30th, the latest rainfall data shows a “wet” season overall. While 2019 and 2020 were considered “dry” years, 2021 was considered a “wet” season by the National Weather Service. With the lone exception of Payson, Arizona, 2022 rainfall totals have beaten those of 2021.

The National Weather Service data for Williams indicates a rainfall total of 8.09 inches as of August 27th. Data from private weather stations indicate we received between 8 and 10 inches of rain so far for the season in town. A weather station off Highway 64 near Highway 180 shows the area had a rainfall total of about 9.10 inches for the season.

A mass of drier air is expected to move over Northern Arizona this week, giving us less rain for at least the next few days. August is typically the peak rainfall period during the season, but September could also produce significant rainfall.
