Arizona’s monsoon season officially kicked off June 15th. The National Weather Service is predicting a virtually equal chance of a wetter, dryer, or normal monsoon season. Not a particularly helpful forecast.
A typical monsoon season would mean a little over 7.5 inches of rain in the Williams area between now and the end of monsoon season, September 30th.
The current short term forecast calls for a chance of isolated thunderstorms this week, with the chances reaching 50% on Friday.
Monsoonal thunderstorms can produce dangerous flooding, fires caused by lightening strikes, and the lightening strikes themselves. In a typical year Arizona sees more than half a million lightening strikes statewide.
Temperatures are expected to be in the mid 30s tonight in some areas of Northern Arizona.
