FLU SEASON OFF TO AN EARLY START IN WILLIAMS

Residents in and around Williams are reporting catching an Influenza virus in the last 2 weeks.

Most people are describing the symptoms as body aches, fever, chills and headaches lasting 4 to 7 days.

We experienced a mild flu seasons the last couple of years during the pandemic due to more people wearing masks and fewer social gatherings. With those factors gone, the flu virus is going to spread more easily, and that is what we are just starting to see in Arizona.

According to Pediatrician Dr. Sandy Herron, “we are anticipating a bigger flu season, more infectiveness, as well as more spread within our communities.”

The basic preventions are still the best way to avoid the flu like hand washing and staying home from work if you feel ill.

Health experts are expecting that Arizona will see the worst flu season in years.

According the the Centers for Disease Control, these are the typical flu symptoms you can expect;

  • Fever*/feeling feverish or chills
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue (tiredness)
  • Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.
This map from the CDC shows the flu season is just getting started.
