A wind driven fire destroyed a single family home Sunday afternoon in the Whispering Pines subdivision at the west end of the William just outside the city limits.
The fire was reported shortly after 1 p.m. in a home at the end of W. Scenic Loop which borders the forest near Forest Service Road 124. A thick black column of smoke could be seen from several miles away as police and fire units were responding.
The Williams Fire Department responded quickly with a large number of Firefighters and apparatus and attacked the fire as it was starting to spread to nearby trees. Firefighters were able to hold to fire to the house of origin.
It took over an hour to completely knock the fire down and begin overhaul operations.
No injuries were immediately reported.
