Arizona Democrat candidate for Governor Katie Hobbs failed to show up at a town hall event hosted by Spanish-language media Wednesday.
Her Republican opponent Kari Lake was present at the event. Lake received loud applause from the crowd as she addressed issues and answered question while standing next the the empty podium meant for Hobbs.
The audience booed loudly when told that Hobbs was a no show to the event.
Hobbs has refused to debate Lake or appear at events with her. Many in the crowd expressed their displeasure that a candidate for Governor would refuse to debate her opponent, one accusing her of “hiding from voters.”
Lake told the crowd, “She does not have the courage to be on this stage.” Lake added, “I always speak to the media, but she won’t answer the questions. She won’t answer the questions and she didn’t have the courage to be here.”
It remains to be seen how Arizona voters will respond to a candidate the refuses to debate or attend public events. Recent polls, both public and internal, show that her strategy of seemingly disrespecting the right of voters to engage with her may not end well for her.
