FORMER WILLIAMS PD LIEUTENANTS CRIMINAL ASSAULT TRIAL SET FOR JUNE

The criminal assault trial of former Williams Police Lieutenant John Romero has been set for the first week in June in Flagstaff. Subpoenas have been received by multiple witnesses in the case, including current and former Williams officers.

Romero reportedly refused a plea deal that would have him serve 1 year in county jail, followed by 3 years of probation. If convicted of all charges at trial, Romero could serve 2 decades in prison.

Romero was indicted by a Grand Jury on 2 counts of Felony aggravated assault stemming from a violent arrest on October 20th, 2022 in which Romero allegedly slammed a handcuffed petty theft suspect to the ground causing serious injuries.

The Mohave County Attorney’s Office is handling the prosecution at the request of the Coconino County Attorney.
