Three people believed to be from Orange County, California were killed when their car veered off the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 and across the center median into eastbound traffic several miles west of Williams.
The vehicle the deceased were in appeared to have hit a big rig truck head on. One person, possibly a child, was transported to the hospital in Flagstaff in unknown condition.
The crash closed the right lane of the highway with traffic able to use the left lane to get past the incident. Traffic was backed up for about 1 mile. The accident happened near mile marker 153 west of Devil Dog Road on Interstate 40 around 2:30 pm Tuesday.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
